Sacred Heart

Saint Paul Outside the Walls

Saint Paul Outside the Walls, Rome, Italy, 2012

Saint Alphonsus Liguori is one of the most well known and widely read authors of the Catholic faith.  He lived in the 1700s and was the eldest of seven children.  Born into nobility and at the age of sixteen went to law school.  After practicing law for eight years and losing a case for the first time, he quit the profession saying that he wished to secure the salvation of his soul.  He then entered the seminary against his father’s wishes and was ordained a priest on December 21, 1726.

Saint Alphonsus Liguori was a master of the interior life.  He wrote over 100 books, articles and sermons on spirituality and theology and was named a Doctor of The Church by Pope Pius IX.

This beautiful prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one written by him.  Enjoy…

Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, living and life-giving fountain of eternal life, infinite treasure of the Divinity, and glowing furnace of love.  You are my sanctuary.  O adorable and glorious Savior, consume my heart with that burning fire that ever inflames Your Heart.  Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Your love.  Let my heart be one with, and in all things conformed to, Yours.  May Your Will be the rule of both my desires and my actions.

Amen.
