The Apostles’ Creed

520px-Shield-Trinity-Scutum-Fidei-English-001_svg      The word creed is defined as a statement of belief.  As a Catholic, and as many Christians do, I believe in the Blessed Trinity, that God is three distinct persons in one.  The beautiful prayer, The Apostles’ Creed, is based on our belief in the Trinity.  At the start it firmly avows that God is our Father, and the creator of all.  Next the prayer affirms that God The Son, Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, is our Savior.  This part of the creed tells the story of our redemption from beginning to end.  Then the prayer continues on attesting to the Holy Spirit who is the breath of life in each of us, who shows us the way to sanctification of our souls, that we may one day be resurrected into everlasting life.   This prayer states truths as taught by Jesus Christ and handed down by the Apostles.  If you pray and believe what you pray within it, then you own your faith…

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only Son, Our Lord
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Was crucified, died and was buried.
On the third day, he rose again
He ascended into Heaven
and is seated at the right hand
of God, the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
