Lord, You Are Adonai

Holy_Sacrifice_of_the_Mass_001You are Lord; Adonai.

Forgive me, Lord, when I do not submit to Your will for my life.  Forgive me when I choose to go in another direction or choose another way.

Thank you, Lord, for Your careful orchestration of my life.  Because you are Lord, Adonai, everything in heaven and on earth bow to your Name and answer to your commands.

Psalm 111

Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart,
In the company of the upright and in the assembly.
Great are the works of the LORD;
They are studied by all who delight in them.
Splendid and majestic is His work,
And His righteousness endures forever.
He has made His wonders to be remembered;
The LORD is gracious and compassionate.
He has given food to those who fear Him;
He will remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of His hands are truth and justice;
All His precepts are sure.
They are upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in truth and uprightness.
He has sent redemption to His people;
He has ordained His covenant forever;
Holy and awesome is His name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.

Left Out In The Cold?

  800px-05_Tentaciones_de_Cristo_(Botticelli) Temptations of Christ“You must not turn aside, for then you would go after futile things which can not profit or deliver, because they are futile.  For the LORD will not abandon His people on account of His great name; because the LORD has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.”  Samuel 12:21-22

     We all go through our ups and downs or times when we feel we are just spinning our wheels and getting nowhere.  Spiritually one can also be in the doldrums, a desert, or lost and feeling abandoned.  We may feel we have been left out in the cold and nothing can make us feel warm again.

     If we are a people of faith, a people of hope; if we are believers in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, we know in our minds and through our faith that this is not the end all.  We wait, we hope, we believe better times are to come.  We believe in the Life that is to come because we are eternal beings.  We know this is just one phase of our eternity, and that it is a passing phase.

     Knowing in our minds, or trusting in our faith is different from feeling in our heart.  When we feel lost or abandoned it is precisely because we feel with our heart.  Our soul, however, knows better and it is our soul we must reconnect with.

     Our times of abandonment may be necessary in order to serve as a wake up call from God to get with the program.  Maybe we have been floating along, actually doing well, but possibly taking all for granted.  Our efforts fade as we float along in smug comfort and we find ourselves no longer going the extra mile or giving our very best.  We just are.  But, how do we reconnect with our inner spirit, our soul, our God?  We pray, we learn, and we wait.

    Pray always, because Jesus is the life-line.  He is the Way.  Learn continuously about Jesus and your faith, because we never have all the answers.  He is the answer to every question.  Wait patiently to be called upon again, because He works all things good for those who love Him.  Jesus sacrificed all so we could Live in Eternity with Him.

     Time spent in prayer, time spent in learning more about Jesus, and time spent waiting to be called upon is never wasted.  Time spent in these ways may make our time in the desert, or our time left out in the cold, the most profitable time ever in terms of Eternity.

A Work In Progress

Saint Paul Outside the Walls

Saint Paul Outside the Walls, Rome, Italy, 2012

“Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress.”  1 Timothy 4:15

     We are each called to be holy, to be saintly.  If we are uncomfortable with the thought of being holy it is most likely because we see how far we have to go.  I have often thought that once achieved, once saintly, the journey is over and we will be called to heaven to give praise and glory to God along with all the angels and saints who already there.  That too could make some of us uncomfortable with the idea of actually achieving holiness.  We might not be ready to leave just yet!

     Because we are each a work in progress, God is not yet finished with us.  He has plans for us, and while the journey may be mercifully hidden from us the destination is made to beckon to us on an intrinsic level that draws us ever toward it.  Our destiny is heaven, our journey is life, and it is our soul within that yearns to fulfill our destiny by achieving holiness and gaining Life Everlasting in heaven as our reward.

     As a work in progress toward our ultimate destination, we each look for the easiest most most straight-forward path to get us there.  By exercising our God-given free will, we often divert from the path, but the yearning in our soul brings us back and leads us onward and upward.  As we progress we find our way along a path unique to us, a path laid out for us by God.

     When we discover our unique path, we are in sync with our destiny.  We may still be imperfect, but we are well aware we are along the right path.  We have joy in our hearts and we are a joy to behold in the eyes of all.

     Have you been feeling a little nudge lately?  Is there something God is calling out to you to do, and yet, you are unsure?  Don’t ignore His nudge. Pray for His loving guidance, and devote yourself to His call.  Let others see as you answer His call and bear witness.  Don’t worry about being perfect.  Remember, you are a work in progress.  You are His work in progress.

     Putting myself out there publicly, by sharing my personal spiritual journal with everyone, was never something I imagined myself doing, not in a million years.  And, while I have always had a desire to write, developing a website by myself and writing blog posts on a regular basis was such a far stretch of my imagination, that I am in constant awe of what He can do with a work in progress who is willing to listen for, hear, and then act on what God is calling them to do!  If I can do this, I humbly submit that you can too.

     What is it He is calling you to do?  Don’t know?  Just ask.  He will not disappoint!  Nor will He leave you to do it by yourself for He will be ever at your side.

At The Edge Of The Pit?

557px-Resurrection_002 “I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.  LORD my God, I called to your for help, and you healed me.  You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.  Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.  For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”  Psalm 30:1-5

     How glorious it is when we realize where we are, where we could have been, and who it was that saved us.  Jesus sees and knows all.  He sees the mistakes you make and the pitfalls that lay before you.  He does not want you to fail, but instead, to succeed in His Name as a glorious witness to His steadfast love, faithfulness, and mercy.  He not only expects us to call out to Him in need, but He desires us to.

     Are you hanging over the edge of the pit right now, clinging for dear life, and not knowing how to save yourself?  He is there.  Call out His name.  Call out to Jesus, the same Jesus who gave His life for you.  He did not give up His life to lose the battle for yours.  Let Him bring you back from the realm of the dead.  He will spare you … if you but look to Him.  He will grab hold and not let you go.

     And when He brings you up, out of the pit, praise His Holy Name for all others to know and see what He has done for you!

Lord, Your are Mighty.

Forgive me, Lord, when I allow myself to hide from what I know is mine to do.  Forgive me for thinking I can hide.

Thank you, Lord, for Your Mighty Power, Your Mighty Hand at work in my life and the lives of my loved ones, so that we cannot hide, so that Your Will is accomplished in us.

A Humble Heart

“Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto thine… Come spiritually into my heart.  Purify it.  Sanctify it.  Render it like unto Your own.”

     These beautiful words are part of a special prayer said when making a ‘spiritual communion’.  Pray these words sincerely.  Pray them daily.  Meditate on their transforming power, and witness the changes in your own life as Jesus makes your heart like unto His.

Armed With Prayer

“Now, O my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.”  2 Chronicles 6:40

      Saint Faustina Kowalska, is very close to my heart.  Her writings stir my soul to action.  Today I am sharing an excerpt about prayer from her Diary, Divine Mercy In My Soul.

“Prayer. – A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat.  In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray.  A soul which is pure and beautiful must pray, or else it will lose its beauty; a soul which is striving after this purity must pray, or else it will never attain it; a soul which is newly converted must pray, or else it will fall again; a sinful soul, plunged in sins, must pray so that it might rise again  There is no soul which is not bound to pray, for every single grace comes to the soul through prayer.”

     My hope in sharing from the writings of Saint Faustina is that Jesus’ message of Divine Mercy for all will resonate in your own soul and lead you to a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Him.  Only through prayer can such be achieved.  There is no soul which is not bound to pray so let us pray for one another.

Justified Faith

“for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.”  Romans 2:13

     When we open ourselves to hear God speak, we open ourselves to His use.  When we hear Him, we can no longer deny Him, or what is ours to do.  However, it goes both ways.  When we are open to Him, He is open to us.  He keeps His promises.

     Today I am sharing another entry from Journey Through The Stillness (My personal spiritual journal).  When we are faithful, we no longer need to question why.  We just continue on …

April 8, 2011 – My Heavily Robed Jesus lifts me gently standing before Him.  Looking deeply into my eyes He says, “It is good that you keep these appointed times. Do not grow weary in doing so, child.  Continue to come to Me.  I will keep my promises.  Your faith in Me is justified; my faith in you must be also.  You need Me, and I also need you.  I need you to be Me in the world and to help Me bring home the lost.”

(Personal thoughts – I am beyond wondering why me, or how could he ever use me.  I am too busy just trying to keep up with Him!  I do, at times, still question if I am doing all I am supposed to be doing and He usually lets me know!)

Lord, You Are Light

Icefields Parkway, Banff National Park, Canada, 2010 taken by Martha M Wiggins

Lord, You are Light.

Forgive me, Lord, when I choose the darkness and separation of sin over the freedom and rewards of your Light.

Thank you, Lord, for knowledge of and faith in You, while so many have never even heard your Name.  Let me never be separated from You.

     Sin brings darkness to our lives.  It separates us from Our Lord.  Sin is always a result of a choice.  It may be a split second decision, or a well thought out plan, but when we sin, we choose to do so.

     Make the right choice.  Choose Light.
