“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.” Psalm 102:12-13
The transgressions of humanity as a whole are tremendous. Among them are abortion, incest, rape, murder, slavery, starvation, and genocide. And yet, God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy continues to forgive us. He continues to love us.
If our own family members, our own children and the people we loved committed such atrocities against each other over and over again, most of us would have given up and given in long ago. We would turn, walk away and never look back. But our God is an awesome God, compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love for His children. And, we are His children.
In John 1:12-13 we read, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” Not of man, but of God.
We are each of God, and because we are His children, He separates his feelings about us from His feelings about our transgressions. He loves His children; He abhors their sins. In this way He is able to treat us with compassion, to hold our transgressions as far away from us as east is to west. He will hold us accountable on the final judgement day, but to those who fear Him, those who receive Him, there will be mercy. He will call them His own.
Run from your transgressions straight into your Father’s compassionate arms. Receive Him as your Lord and Father, and let Him call you His own.
