A Song Between Creator and Created

On occasion I have mentioned how there are songs from the 1960’s and 70’s that can become ‘prayer-like’ and lead us to a deeper connection with God during our everyday activities… if we are listening with spiritual ears.
As an example, one such song for me is “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees from 1977 (Shared below). Did I listen to it with spiritual ears back in the day? Not at all. Not until I attended a beautiful spiritual retreat as an adult and had a priest suggest the interesting possibility. He also explained that it is never meant to replace lofty hymns of praise and glory, or to disrespect other Christian songs and listening. It is merely an additional way of being in a secular world and allowing His voice to gain entry in a very unique and beautiful way. At least for me, it is.
I have found that God takes my love of certain genres of music and gifts me the joy of often finding Him there reaching out to me and enjoying it with me. For me it’s always been a much loved and appreciated God Smile. And He knows it, therefore He loves gifting it.
So, here it is.
How Deep Is Your Love by The Bee Gees.
It begins as God speaking to me…
I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I want to feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave
And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me.
And then Me to God…
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You’re the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You’re my savior when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do
And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me.
And then the song continues on repeating lyrics. It may seem strange for some, but I come away feeling reassured that I am deeply loved by God, and that He desires Me to love Him just as deeply. I feel His deep longing, His need to be one with my soul, and His desire to know my love for Him is real. I also come away feeling it is good to express my own need to be with and feel His presence deep within my soul, and to voice my need for Him to show me that His love for me runs deeper than I can ever fathom.
The most beautiful lyric for me?
-We belong to You and Me- A beautiful back and forth communication of deep abiding love between Creator and created. The core of Life.
If you’ve read this far, I’m impressed. If you listen to every genre of music, past and present, with a spiritual ear, you just might be surprised where He sings directly to you, His beloved. I think that’s pretty COOL! 🙃🙏🏻❤️🎸
